Frida Kahlo meets Rosa Luxemburg

Frida Kahlo meets Rosa Luxemburg

feminist revue

Premiere: October 25, 2012 at the House of World Cultures

Wiederaufnahme: 2013 at the Theaterkapelle Berlin

On January 15, 1919, Rosa Luxemburg was shot in Berlin and thrown into the Landwehr Canal. What has she been doing ever since?

This witty and political text by gender researcher Julia Roth provides the answer: she meets every year with her best friend, the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, for a revolutionary binge of the dead.

The two 20th century icons ponder and argue about revolution, communism, the hierarchies between the First and Third Worlds, and the role of women in world affairs.

They drink booze, tie up and kill the patriarchy (necessary every year), and talk wistfully about the men and women in their love and sex lives. To love and death!
